God has been speaking to me much about humility. For awhile it seemed like everywhere I turned I was seeing situations where I thought, “Some humility would fix this!” It has happened so often that I’ve begun to think of humility as God’s Windex! (If you’ve ever seen that movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, you remember the girl’s unforgettable Greek father, Gus Portokalos. No matter what the problem was—psoriasis, poison ivy, mosquito bites, warts, sore elbows, pimples—the answer was simple: “Put some Windex on it!”)
While Windex may not have held up to Gus’ claim for its universal fix-all powers, I truly do believe this world would be an entirely different place if its inhabitants would choose to be humble! So many scriptures would be much easier to follow:
*James 1:19 “Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters! Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger.”
*Philippians 2:3b “….in humility treat one another as more important than yourself.”
If our communities were filled with humble people, our constant need to be right might just dissolve! Real listening would be a valued practice! Offering forgiveness would be prevalent! I honestly believe that if Christ’s Bride, the church, would allow the Holy Spirit to teach us how much the Father loves humility, that we would eagerly live in the way Paul described to the Ephesian church: “You must put away every kind of bitterness, anger, wrath, quarreling, and evil, slanderous talk. Instead, be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:31-32) That verse perfectly describes what treating others as more important than yourself looks like, don’t you think? Paul was right when he acknowledged to the Philippians that it would take humility to accomplish such a daunting task!
Jesus, when You lived here in my world You were humble. So often You chose to not open your mouth. You were God, yet You daily chose to be humble. You lived your entire life with a mindset of “Not my will, but Yours, Father”. If you hadn’t, you never would have chosen the cross to rescue us! Thank You! Teach me, Holy Spirit, to think of others as better than myself! I truly need to learn humility!

One response to “God’s Windex!”
”Humble yourself before The Lord, and He will lift you up!”
And that is what is lacking, as individuals, and as a nation… therefore there is chaos!
However, there is hope, our only hope in The Savior, The Redeemer, Who is Faithful to complete what He has begun. May we be faithful and not quench the calling and leading of The Holy Spirit at every moment!
